Anthropic Launches Claude Sonnet 5: Near-Opus Performance at Lower Cost
Anthropic released Claude Sonnet 5 on June 30, 2026, as its most agentic Sonnet model yet. The new model narrows the gap with Opus 4.8, scoring 63.2% on agentic coding benchmarks while offering introductory pricing of $2 per million input tokens through August 31. It's now the default for Free and Pro users across Claude, Claude Code, and the API.
